Nakameguro After Dark: A Quiet Evening Walk
A slow evening route through Nakameguro — riverside lanes, a sukiyaki counter, and a late drink away from the crowds.
Nakameguro empties out after the cherry-blossom season ends. That is exactly when the neighbourhood is at its best: the canal goes dark and quiet, the chain cafés thin out, and the places that locals actually keep returning to become easy to walk between.
Start by the canal
Begin on the quiet side of the Meguro River, away from the station exits. The walk south is short and the lanes branch constantly — this is a place to wander rather than navigate.
Where to stop
Two counters anchor the evening. Wagyuu Sukiyaki Soshiji Nakameguro is the slow option — a single A5-wagyu sukiyaki counter, walk-in, no rush. Daikanyama Issai Kassai sits at the Daikanyama edge of the area for a later, looser drink once the kitchens close.
Going in
Both counters are small and walk-in — neither takes advance reservations. On weekends, go early in the evening if you want a relaxed seat rather than a wait.
