What makes it special
Ikebukuro is Tokyo’s most concentrated yakiniku market — but most of the volume is forgettable, mid-tier chains. Yattyan’s western-Tokyo opening brings a higher-end never-frozen-meat philosophy to the west exit. The 200g portion size is the visible distinguishing feature; the invisible feature is that meat is butchered to order rather than pre-sliced.
The signature is upper tongue, sliced thick — a portion size that lets even an inexperienced griller produce a textbook crisp exterior and juicy interior. Pair with the wasabi-shoyu skirt for the contrast.
How to visit
Five minutes’ walk from Ikebukuro station’s west exit, on the 10th floor of the VORT Ikebukuro Lux building. Reservations required; phone (050-5868-8037) or DM through Instagram.
FAQ
FAQ
Why is the meat 200g per cut?
Most yakiniku-ya serve 80-100g per portion. Yattyan's house philosophy is that thicker cuts are easier to grill correctly — even a beginner can produce a good result. The tongue at this size cooks crisp-outside, juicy-inside more reliably than thin slices.
Do I need a reservation?
Yes — strongly. The Ikebukuro branch is the new opening of an already-popular brand and weekends fill quickly.
What's the order to start with?
Top tongue (¥2,980), top skirt with wasabi-shoyu (¥2,980), top kalbi (¥2,728). The 200g-per-cut format means three cuts comfortably feed two people.
